In a significant development for medical aspirants nationwide, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026. This decision, made with the approval of the Government of India, follows a thorough review of inputs from central agencies and investigative findings from law enforcement regarding the integrity and transparency of the testing process. The NTA has confirmed that a re-conduct of the examination will take place, and the specific dates, along with the schedule for re-issued admit cards, will be communicated through official agency channels in the coming days.
The government has further intensified its response by referring the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations and irregularities surrounding the exam. This follows an earlier referral by the NTA to central agencies on May 8, 2026, for independent verification to uphold the commitment to a fair and credible examination system. While the agency expressed that it is conscious of the significant inconvenience this causes to candidates and their families, it maintains that the decision was necessary to prevent more lasting damage to the public trust in national examinations.
For candidates already registered for the May 2026 cycle, the NTA has clarified that their registration data, candidature, and chosen examination centers will be carried forward for the re-conducted exam. No fresh registration will be required, and no additional examination fees will be levied. Furthermore, the agency has stated that any fees already paid for the initial exam will be refunded to the students, as the re-conducted examination will be managed using the NTA's internal resources.
Candidates and parents are strongly advised to rely exclusively on official notifications issued through the NTA’s verified website and communication channels, disregarding any unverified reports circulating on social media. The official press release from the NTA is attached below 👇🏻👇🏻
